Larijani EU Perliament Meeting
Senior EP Lawmaker Meet Iran's Parliament Speaker Larijani
TEHRAN - The Chairman of the EU parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok hold meeting with Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Saturday.
A comprehensive agreement on Iran's nuclear program is within reach provided that the negotiating parties have a logical approach and refrain from making excessive demands, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said.
"The final deal could be reached with (adopting) a logical view, avoiding excessive demands in the stage of drafting the text (of the deal) and refraining from raising new subjects (in the course of the talks)," Larijani said in a meeting with Elmar Brok, the chairman of the European Parliament’s (EP) Committee on Foreign Affairs, held in Tehran on Saturday.
Larijani also expressed the Iranian parliament's support for the negotiations that aim to end more than a decade of standoff on Tehran's nuclear energy program.
For his part, Brok, who is on a visit to Iran at the head of an 8-strong EP delegation, hoped that a lasting nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) would be struck until an end-June deadline and help improve relations between Iran and the European Parliament.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) are in talks to draft and finalize the text of a long-awaited nuclear accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
